ARTEL's Black Birds Painted Dessert Bowl

BLACK BIRDS PAINTED

Introduced in 2016

Featuring a delicately hand-painted ring of black birds flying free against a clear crystal background and a striking silhouette of a are tree on the bottom of each piece, BLACK BIRDS PAINTED effortlessly evokes a sense of subtle sophistication that is at once elegant, whimsical, and almost eerie.

One source of inspiration for this unique design was the 1919 accordion-style foldout book by the German painter and social reformer Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach entitled Per Aspera ad Astra ("To the stars through hardships"), which contains 34 black silhouette illustrations of nature scenes offering a vision of youth, beauty, and harmony. Hand-painted silhouettes were a common design element in early 20th-century Bohemian glassware; BLACK BIRDS PAINTED offers a modern take on this theme that will be appreciated by nature lovers and design enthusiasts alike.
